We've launched two new pillow collections! Our striking marbled pillows are handcrafted in small batches using the traditional technique of floating paint on water. For our textured pillows we hand-stitch a luxuriously soft wool-alpaca yarn to canvas using traditional needlepoint techniques to create gorgeous modern patterns. All of our pillows are meticulously made in the USA. Visit our shop to see them all!

Jennifer Shorto, a passionate art historian and textile aficionado, designs fabric and wallpaper patterns inspired by less traveled places. We love the lively mix of color in her collection of West African patterned textiles. An installation of her “Pink City” wallpaper (shown below) in the new James Showroom in Austin, TX, caught our eye as well. It’s such an interesting, whimsical design — we’d like to know the story behind it!

We've been fans of the gorgeous hand-marbled wallpapers of Brooklyn-based Calico Wallpaper for some time. We're even more enamored after seeing this video on how their company and artisan processes came to be! One of their new lines, Aurora, offers 16 different papers and translates subtle, graduated color and light into beautiful wallcoverings.

We are thrilled to introduce our new block-printed wallpaper collection! It took a year and a half to develop, but we are so pleased with the end product. We’ve named this collection “First Impression,” not only because it’s our first, but also to pay homage to the centuries-old artisan technique of hand block printing by which it's made.
Our wallpaper is entirely handmade, from start to finish! To print each pattern, an artisan painstakingly carves the design into a wooden block, with a separate block for each color. The block is dipped in ink, and then carefully placed on the surface of the paper where the impression is made, over and over until the pattern is complete. The result is a unique work of art, celebrating the perfect imperfections of the artisan’s hand. Each roll has a distinct and special quality that could never be attained by machine.
Bold, organic, simultaneously modern yet traditional, these wallcoverings are suitable for a variety of interior design styles. When installed, the finish is absolutely stunning — it almost looks like the wall itself was carefully hand-painted.
The First Impression Collection is now on sale through our website. Trade discounts are available.

Check out the incredible work of mixed-media artist Robert Larson, of Santa Cruz, CA. Would you believe that these pieces are made entirely from discarded cigarette packages? We find the clever reuse of (literally!) garbage, subtle color variations, and texture to be quite beautiful and inspiring.

We recently discovered the work of Rebecca Atwood and are completely enamored (jealous, really!) of her gorgeous designs and creative process. Blending traditional dyeing techniques, hand painting, hand screen printing, and digital printing, Rebecca creates unique fabrics that all retain a beautiful, hand made quality. Check out the pillows and accessories available in her online shop.

Squares and rectangles, some of the first shapes we learn, are the basis for so much design — from fabulous tile patterns, to vintage barkcloth fabric, to architectural details. It's amazing such simple shapes can create such interesting patterns.

Check out the gorgeous designs of Pintura Studio. Founded in 1996 by decorative artists Christine Isles and Edward Rollins, Pintura Studio creates all of their global-inspired designs in New York’s East Village. Each design begins with stencils cut by hand and transferred to silkscreens, which are then hand printed onto silk (hand woven and dyed!), cotton, linen, outdoor fabric, or wallpaper. We admire their dedication to creating hand made products from start to finish, and love that each product retains a beautifully unique, artisan style.

Designed in the U.S. and handmade by artisan’s in India, Aelfie’s “The Saskia” rug keeps us mesmerized with its single graphic repeating motif. What makes this modern rug especially compelling is the asymmetrical use of beautifully harmonious color. Gorgeous!

This beautiful example of a Jacobean motif was created in the early 18th century in India. It would have been printed entirely by hand by highly experienced artisans using mordant and resist dyes. The quality and level of detail is absolutely exquisite.

If you are visiting Barcelona, Park Güell is a must-see. We love the tile work called trencadís by Antoni Gaudí and Josep Maria Jujol. Created in the early 1900s from discarded ceramics, Gaudí and Jujol were “up cycling” long before it was trendy to do so! We love the way the pattern is purposely disjointed, yet remains hypnotically beautiful.
